CONTROLLER WAGNER, MARATHON BOARD MEMBER, TO PARTICIPATE IN RELAY

Allegheny County Controller Chelsa Wagner, a member of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Board of Directors, will participate in the FedEx Ground Pittsburgh Marathon Relay on Sunday, May 6, 2012.

Controller Wagner’s leg of the Relay will take her through neighborhoods of the North Side, West End and South Shore that she represented for five years in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Wagner worked to route the Marathon through the West End neighborhood for the first time last year.

“The Marathon is a million economic generator for our region and a showcase for our unique neighborhoods, with 25,000 runners and their guests spending the weekend,” Wagner said. “I’m honored to have been able to work to help bring the Marathon back to Pittsburgh four years ago and to help provide exposure to some of our hidden gems in the West End.”

Controller Wagner, who completed the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C. in 2005, returns to competition Sunday for the first time since the birth of her two sons in 2009 and in February.

“I’m excited to be part of an event which has once again become a great tradition and celebration in Pittsburgh,” Wagner said. “My congratulations go out to Marathon staff and my fellow Board members on their incredible accomplishments over the past four years, with record participation in this 23rd running. Our status as a top international race destination is a true Pittsburgh comeback story representative of our resurgence as a city and region.”
