COUNTY CONTROLLER WAGNER TO AUDIT CORIZON HEALTH, INC.’S CONTRACT WITH ALLEGHENY COUNTY JAIL

Allegheny County Controller Chelsa Wagner today notified Corizon Health, Inc. and County Executive Rich Fitzgerald that her office will perform an audit of Allegheny County Jail’s health contract, via a letter sent today. Controller Wagner addressed her concerns about Corizon’s ability to provide the quality and quantity of care as defined by the County’s contract in a letter sent earlier this month and in public meetings of the Jail Advisory Board.

“I remain gravely concerned by the credible reports our office has received regarding substandard care at the Jail,” Wagner said.  “I’ve raised these concerns publicly, including at the Jail Advisory Board and in writing to Corizon. Yet, the responses to my questions have likewise been substandard and certainly not what I would expect from an entity that receives more than $11 million in taxpayer money annually. Through this audit, we will get the answers that I, as the elected Controller, and the taxpayers of Allegheny County deserve.”
