STATEMENT ON PENDING LOSS OF STATE POLICE UNION ACCESS TO UPMC

“The news that members of the Pennsylvania State Police officers union will
become ‘out-of-network’ for care at UPMC shows what UPMC really thinks of
working families. These state troopers and many other union families rely on
Highmark coverage that will no longer be accepted by UPMC doctors and hospitals
after June 30. For UPMC to force the state police union and other labor
organizations into changing their insurance provider ‘or else’ shows that UPMC
intends to continue to terrorize working families who built its hospitals with
their tax dollars, and many that quite literally built UPMC’s hospitals.

“It is not too late to avert the crisis that these working families and so many others face. I encourage residents to attend our upcoming Town Hall Meetings, sign the petition and submit their stories at HealthCarePGH.com, and submit a formal complaint to the Pennsylvania Attorney General at www.AttorneyGeneral.gov/UPMC
if their access to care has been affected. The encouraging actions by the attorney general and local legislators in recent days shows that our voices are working.”
